BACKGROUND

Following the fall of the Somali Central Government in 1990 law & order were lost. Unfortunately, all public and social services, local, regional, and central governing and institutions were destroyed, looted, and were left at the mercy of roaming and marooning. All institutions that served the public and civil society were made operationally dysfunctional and physically reduced to states of rabbles. All legal, social, and physical infrastructures that have been serving the civil society and the nation were destroyed and taken over by unscrupulous people. Civil strife reined, chaos became the order of the day, and good common sense became the thing of the past and nation stepped into National Disaster which is the first of its kind in modern history of the 21st Century. A group of forwarding thinking concerned professionals started Sool Institute of Health Science (SIHS) in August, 2008from bootstrap at a modestly furnished rented building in Lasanod, Sool Region in response to the total collapse of health system of Sool Region and beyond. SIHS organized & offered Diploma Programs and trainings to health workforce in response to that serious crisis to train semi-skilled & skilled health workers for Sool Region. After nine (2017) years the young institutions was renamed Sool College of Health Science (SCHS) and remains to be the work horse for the Health System in Sool Region by focusing where the community needs the most with its meager resources.
